This cabinet was poorly made in China, poorly packaged, and poorly supported by Bell'O. Several of the pieces arrived defectively made and/or damaged during shipment due to inadequate packaging by Bell'O (rather than mishandling by UPS). Wood was warped, scratched & dented, cheap veneer was split, knob screws were bent, leg screws were stripped, and latches and dowel holes were misaligned suggesting sloppy manufacturing tolerances. Large, heavy pieces of wood with latches & knobs pre-installed were sandwiched together with surprisingly thin styrofoam providing inadequate protection during shipment.

I sent detailed descriptions and photos of the defective & damaged pieces to Bell'O, and ultimately requested that they merely replace the cabinet top, which was visibly warped and dented when viewed from the front, as I could hide most of the other defects and returning this large unit is a hassle. Unfortunately, Camilla Hernandez of Bell'O Customer Support claimed that Bell'O bore no responsibility for their defective parts and packaging. So, I am forced to return the entire 135-lb unit to Amazon for a refund (not a replacement since I will now purchase another brand superior to Bell'O). Sometimes poor quality can be remedied with good customer service (other low-end furniture makers have gladly & quickly replaced components for me). But, through their short-sighted decision to not provide a replacement component, Bell'O has lost a customer for life, and perhaps other potential customers who read this review. Bad business, Bell'O.

Gotta love Amazon, though...setting up the return and UPS pickup required just a few clicks in my Prime account. Bell'O may not care about losing me as a customer, but perhaps Amazon can pressure Bell'O to improve their cheap Chinese manufacturing and packaging.

Avoid the disappointingly poor furniture and hassle of return: avoid Bell'O.

UPDATE: A business trip prevented me from returning this unit to Amazon promptly as planned. 10 days after I posted this negative review, Camilla Hernandez apologized via email and said she was sending a new cabinet top to me. It arrived several days later. "Better late than never", so I've increased my rating from 1 to 2 stars. It is unfortunate that it was such a hassle to get Bell'O to do the right thing and stand behind their product. At least this action is evidence of the power of Amazon reviews. So, I am keeping the cabinet with a replacement top, though I doubt I'll risk repeating this experience with Bell'O.

This timeclock is expensive. It functionally does what it should, but the initial setup and interface lacks a bit to be desired. I think from a pure functional point of view it does what you need it to, but the software interface and the tactile interface with the device is clunky. I think the main difference in this piece and more expensive models of similar feature sets is probably found in a more intuitive user interface. I am satisfied with the purchase but this device is definitely NOT for someone who lacks technical abilities. I think this thing has potential for excellence, but the user experience would have to be improved.

RedEye RE0002 Universal Remote Control System for iOS and PC - Black Review

The concept for this is genius - execution is (almost) terminally flawed by the limited networking options. I did come up with a solution that's workable for me, but it's less than ideal.

Let me start by saying I'm a pretty tech-savvy guy. I have a fairly advanced network in my house - a business-class firewall, and separate "public" and "private" wireless networks. Configuring all that was no problem for me, but the RedEye just did't work in my environment.

Issue #1- I insist on "reasonable" wireless security. The RedEye will only connect to networks that use WPA or no security. WPA is not a good choice these days - the only thing worse is no security at all. Wireless routers have an option for "WPA2 Mixed", which allows devices to connect with the best security option they can. That SHOULD have allow my other dozen wireless devices to still use WPA2, and just negotiate down to WPA for the RedEye. But that did't work, so my only option would have been to bring the entire wireless network down to WPA only - not acceptable to me.

Issue #2- To expand the wireless coverage in my house, I use Wireless Access Points that connect to my firewall. Unfortunately, that was another problem I couldn't get past. I could see the RedEye was connecting to the network, and I could even use a web browser on my iPad to connect to the web admin console. But the RedEye app could not see the device, so connecting it to a Wireless Access Point doesn't seem to work either.

Issue #3- I conceded "full" network connectivity, so I thought I would try just using the ad-hoc, peer-to-peer wifi option to connect my iPad to the RedEye. While that worked, the RedEye app would take 30 seconds or more to find the device. Plus, my iPad was constantly switching itself back to my home network, probably because the ad-hoc RedEye connection had no Internet connectivity. That meant I was constantly changing the wifi settings on my iPad.

My solution... I used an extra wireless router to create a "RedEye Wifi" network. It has no security enabled, but it's not connected to the Internet so I'm not concerned. To control my AV equipment, I switch my iPad to connect to the "RedEye Wifi", and then open the RedEye app. It connects to the RedEye device in a couple seconds every time. This was the fastest, and most secure option in my opinion.

Skywatcher Pro SW 100ED APO 100mm ED Refractor Optical Tube Assembly with ED Refractor Design, 900mm Focal Length Review

I have owned this scope for a few months and use it every clear night that I can. (averaging twice a week) This is a great telescope for the price.

Why would you buy this telescope when you can get something the same size or bigger for a lot less money? The answer has to do with the type of glass used in the telescope lens. It's "Extra-low Dispersion Glass." This means that the picture you see in the telescope will not have the false color (chromatic aberration) found in cheaper refractor telescopes. Less expensive "achromatic" telescopes do not use the best glass - this compromise the colors in the view and also the sharpness. This is NOT just a marketing gimmick - the type of glass used in a telescope is extremely important and well-understood. The 100ed isn't tip-top of the line but it's pretty close. There are similar-sized telescopes that give better views, but they are also MUCH more expensive (Approximately three grand.) The views in this are probably 90-95% as good - most casual users will never miss that last 5%. The 100ed gives awe-inspiring views of the moon (most telescopes will) but also gives very pleasing views of open clusters, globular clusters, and brighter planetary nebula. It's possible to see brighter galaxies, but not with much detail. Any scope this size will struggle on fainter objects. Overall, there is no problem with the views in this scope.

The 100ed comes with excellent accessories (in the Skywatcher version, that is)

1) A very usable case - great for taking to a dark site. It's solid enough for car trips, but don't try sending it through baggage claim at an airport or USPS.
2) A two-inch diagonal. This is MUCH better than the stock diagonal one finds on "department store scopes."
3) Two-inch "crayford" focusser. Cheaper scopes come with plastic focussers that have a lot of slop in them, and are hard to adjust. This one is excellent for visual use. I have not tried attaching a camera to it yet.
4) Finder Scope - The supplied finder scope is very usable and, again, a huge step up from the cheapie plastic ones that come on $200 scopes. It has a great adjustment system that is easy to use for aligning the finder to the main tube. Bonus points for this!
5) The supplied eyepieces are fine, but you may want to upgrade for a newer, wider view relatively soon.

A lot of beginners ignore the quality of the other stuff that a telescope needs to work. That is not a problem with the 100ED, as everything works well together, with little frustration, right out of the box.

One thing to consider, for a first-time buyer, is a mount for this scope. You definitely need one, and should probably go with the sturdiest one you can afford. I use a Skywatcher AZ4, which is OK, but will eventually upgrade. Computer-driven mounts are cool, but not really necessary for most users. They can be flaky and uncooperative, and you need a big battery to use them. Someone on a budget would be better off getting a more stable, hand-guided mount.

Orion Telescopes sells the same basic item from their website. But this is a better deal, because the Orion version doesn't have a case or a diagonal.

A few minor caveats:
The tube is pretty big - it isn't heavy but definitely takes up some space in the living room. Other telescopes are designed to be smaller, but there are tradeoffs involved.

The scope is "slow" meaning the tube is fairly long in relation to the diameter of the lens. This means it is not the best scope to use for astrophotography. A shorter tube (with the same sized lens) can use much shorter exposure times to get an equivalent image. But for visual use, it's great.

This is a wonderful scope for a beginner or for an experienced observer who wants a high-quality refractor without the high price tag. Just get a good mount for it!
