Product Description
Wadia engineers have long believed the best way to process and convert a digital signal is to have the digital to analog conversion be the very last step before delivering the signal to the loudspeaker. Until recently, the circuit technology required to execute this strategy was exceptionally expensive. Working with key manufacturing partners, Wadia developed a unique integrated circuitry solution. Now, Wadia PowerDAC technology delivers performance audibly superior to conventional digital amplifiers. Astonishingly pure resolution and clarity. The Wadia 151PowerDAC mini is a sophisticated combination of high performance DAC, surprisingly robust amplifier, and plenty of inputs for today's digital sources. With a nod to Wadia's original Reference PowerDAC, the 151uses a scaled-down version of proprietary Wadia DigiMaster, and DirectConnect technologies for pristine reconstruction and amplification of all your digital sources. Convergence Wadia style. Four selectable digital inputs including USB, Toslink, and (2) coax S/PDIF provide plenty of opportunity to connect a computer, games, and streaming audio sources, as well as your iTransport. This high-resolution digital audio signal is modulated into a conservatively rated 50-watt/4ohm PWM output, and delivered to your loudspeakers using today's most advanced digital amplification. The performance is truly astonishing. What's in the box 151PowerDAC mini Metal Remote Heavy Duty Power Cord User GuideWadia 151 PowerDAC Mini Digital Integrated Amplifier - Black Review
I bought this unit based on various recommendations in audio trade press and Wadia's and dealer's website information. That information turned out to be false. Wadia's own site says this unit is 75W/channel 4 ohm and 50W/channel 8 ohm. Nope. No way. Not even close. The manual that accompanied the unit said 40W @ 4 ohm and 25 at 8 ohm. This is also highly suspect, but closer to reality than the factory online data. If all I wanted was desk-top audio and had speakers good enough to deserve this unit - great. But, it won't drive an 8 ohm speaker unless you're pushing 90+ output, which, will kill the unit in short order. The digital performance as a DAC is the finest I have heard - just what I'd expect from Wadia.I'm bummed to say the least. I rated it one start due to false disclosure. Perhaps not fair, but, in my book, misrepresentation is far worse than poor execution.
